Abstract

Almost 98% of functioning businesses in the Dominican Republic are SMEs and contribute nearly 35% of the GDP. This is one of the reasons why schools and universities develop capacity building to foster entrepreneurial projects. A common strategy is hosting championships and competition events, talks, and even developed in the curriculum. According to the common knowledge among teachers and hosts, the teaching of entrepreneurship and competitions directly influence the formation of entrepreneurs and their projects. Despite this, there is no relevant scientific evidence on how the teaching and competitions hosted improve entrepreneur projects in UNAPEC, and in DR. Based on the data of a sample of entrepreneur projects; we want to construct a moderate model that focuses on entrepreneurial knowledge, entrepreneurial competition, and entrepreneurial projects. The results may show a new perspective on how, why, and when the events should be hosted, the curriculum should be implemented, and the tasks should be developed, in order to foster sustainable entrepreneurial projects that improve the quantity and quality of SMEs and the GDP.
